X-Men: Days Of Future Past (Pre-Thoughts)

Recently we have received a bombardment of news regarding "X-Men: Days Of Future Past" which in its self is rather surprising since we actually got "The Wolverine" coming to our screens  this year and news about that film is actually proving harder to come by.

Days of Future past see time travel arrive in the universe as the X-Men try to alter a future where after a Senator is assassinated Mutants are hunted by the government to near extinction.

But I do have one minor issue with the upcoming Future Past which i'm struggling to move beyond and that is the return of director Bryan Singer.

Don't get me wrong, what Singer did with "X-Men" was incredible turning out a solid and well rounded movie from source material that could have lead to disaster and this only improved with "X2".
But here is the thing: After X2 he walked away from the franchise, directing "Superman Returns"  instead of "X-Men: The Last Stand" and as a result the series struggled between different directors for a while with both the Third installment and "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" both featuring some great moments but also suffered from major flaws such as continuity issues (Xavier pick a appearance for when you stop being able to walk! Either Old or Young!) and the death of a lot of major character.

Then Matthew Vaughn came along and directed the best installment to date "X-Men: First Class" which was not only the best X-Men film but also (in my opinion) one of the greatest Super-Hero films in a long time.
And now for the sequel Singer is returning to direct and replacing Vaughn, leaving me largely unsure how I feel about it.
I mean he truly is a great director and has been present in shaping most of what the franchise has become, and yet the series made some great strides forward under Vaughn with First Class.

So what are you thoughts? The casting news does seem to be shaping up really nicely with a mind blowing number of previous actors form all movie set to return

I mean seriously so far the list confirms

James McAvoy - Young Xavier
Patrick Stewart - Old Xavier
Michael Fassbender - Young Magneto
Ian McKellen - Old Magneto
Jennifer Lawrence - Mystique
Nicholas Hoult - Beast
Hugh Jackman - Wolverine
Anna Paquin - Rouge
Ellen Page - Shadowcat
Shawn Ashmore - Iceman

That is a pretty awesome cast list so far.

And thanks to the quality of the Future Past storyline the potential for the film to out-shine the previous installments is ever present. I suppose in the end only time will tell.
